LIVERPOOL TARGETCLOSING GAP ON CITY

Merseyside giants Liverpool have a must-win game in the Premier League this weekend if they still have designs on the Premier League title. Liverpool need to beat newly promoted side Brentford at home on Sunday to retain their title hopes this season. The Reds will have to see off the Bees without leading goalscorer Mohamed Salah who’s on national team duty with the Pharaohs of Egypt at the ongoing AFCON tournament. Salah has 23 goals in all competitions and he’s the leading goalscorer in the Premier League with 16 goals.

Liverpool are now 14 points behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City with two games in hand after the Citizens beat Chelsea 1-0 at home in their second league meeting this season earlier on Saturday. Star player Kevin De Bruyne curled the winner into the back of the net against former club Chelsea on 70 minutes off the assist from Portugal international star Joao Cancelo. The goal from the Belgian international playmaker ensured that Manchester City did the double over Chelsea as they avenged the three successive defeats suffered against the Blues in all competitions last season including the Champions League final loss. Kai Havertz scored the winner for Chelsea in the first half to secure the Champions League title last season via a 1-0 win in the final.

Merseyside giants Liverpool must beat the Bees at home later this weekend to reduce their points deficit to Manchester City. A win over Brentford at home will reduce the deficit to 12 points. The other outstanding game for the Reds is also at home against Leeds United.

Ahead of the Brentford game, Liverpool are winless in their last three games with a return of just two points. They will be without Salah and six others for the game. Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane are in Cameroon for AFCON while Harvey Elliot, Thiago Alcantara, DivockOrigi and Nathaniel Phillip are injured.
