It looked like Premier League holders Manchester City will run away with their title at some stage this year to make it two successive Premier League title wins, but Liverpool have been able to stay with them and even claw back some points to make it a two-gorse race. At one point, Manchester City had an 14-point lead over the Reds who had two games in hand on them. Five dropped points from City in the last three matches have made the Premier League race more interesting over the last few weeks.

Manchester City dropped their first points in the league for three months when they were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Southampton as they needed the second half strike from AymericLaporte to erase the seventh minute goal from English fullback Kyle Walker-Peters in the colours of the Saints. The Citizens were on a run of 12 straight league wins before it was dropped by Southampton.

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players bounced back from the disappointing away result against the Saints to beat Norwich City 4-0 in their next Premier League encounter with goals from Raheem Sterling (3) and Phil Foden. The Norwich City game was then followed by a surprising 3-2 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur who had lost their last three league games before the match at the Etihad Stadium last week Saturday.

The home loss to Tottenham Hotspur has trimmed the gap between Manchester City and Liverpool to six points after the Reds beat Norwich City in a comeback 3-1 win at the end of their own league clash last weekend. Liverpool now have the opportunity to trim the points deficit further to three points if they are able to beat Leeds United at home in their game in hand over City.
