Klopp Refuses to Be Drawn into Questions about Mamadou Sakho
Jurgen Klopp has opened up on the future of defender Mamadou Sakho, and he says that he does not want to be drawn on conclusions just yet.
The former Paris St Germain defender fell out of favour withKlopp in the summer. After having just played a key role in the club’s revival last season, he did not feature in the first half of the season. Sakho was frozen out of the action, but Klopp finally provided him with the escape option. The defender was allowed to leave the club on a loan deal until the end of the campaign, and Crystal Palace took full advantage of his presence.
Sam Allardyce was able to bring in Sakho on a loan deal until the end of the season, and this transfer has worked like a charm for the London outfit. After struggling with a relegation throughout the campaign, Crystal Palace have been able to secure four wins in the last five league matches – including a 3-0 win over Arsenal and a 2-1 win over Chelsea.
Sakho has undoubtedly been a key part in this process, as his quality defending has helped Crystal Palace not only defend goals from set pieces but also score goals. Klopp has stated that he has been monitoring the progress made by Sakho, but does not want to be commenting on his future.
“I see a lot of Premier League games so I see Crystal Palace too and I see how he is playing there and all this stuff. But there is nothing to say in this moment because you can imagine like all the plans we have for next season, we speak about behind closed doors. In the moment when we have to say something we will say something. There is nothing to say here first of all. Even when it would be clear whether he leaves or he stays then nothing to speak about here,” said Klopp.
